Breaks my heart

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

My whole family is going on a ten-day ski vacation over New Year’s, and of course we can’t bring Samson. I don’t know anyone who could take care of him that whole time, so I’ve been looking into kennels nearby.

One of my mom’s friends recommended a place near our house that her dogs LOVE, so I dropped Sam off there on Monday for a two-night trial run. Oh, it was sad. He was excited when we got out of the car, run run sniff pee sniff pee, but about thirty seconds after we walked in the door, his whole body started quivering. We weren’t doing anything exciting, just standing at the counter filling out forms—I figure the kennel might have smelled like the shelter I got him from, and it freaked him out.

My dad got a new camera

It was supposed to be for his birthday back in October, but he didn’t get around to picking one out until yesterday. It’s actually really nice—a Canon Elph something something. Small but powerful.

Here Sam takes in a Sunday afternoon football game with his grandpa, in whose lap he is often found.

December had better be awesome

One of these days I will feel neither nauseated nor dizzy, and that will be a very good day.

Yeah, I missed another couple days of NaBloPoMo, but I was sickity-sick-sick. Still. Again. I’m on some different medications now, but it’s the same sick. For the last few days I’ve been on antibiotics for a urinary tract infection (great timing, body, thanks), and I think they might have triggered this most recent bout of continuous nausea and off-and-on fuzzyheadedness, but I can’t be sure.

Blahhhhh

Well then. It seems I’ve missed the first day of NaBloPoMo. That’s unfortunate, but perhaps less unfortunate than the reason I wasn’t around, namely, that I have never been sicker in my life than I have been these last couple days.

I’ll spare you most of the details, but last night, after a day and a half of horrible dizziness and nausea, I ended up in the ER. I think I’m having a bad reaction to the hydrocodone the doctor prescribed me for pain. Even though I stopped taking the pills yesterday morning, I still felt like absolute shit today when I woke up, so I went to see my primary care doctor. They kept me there for 5 hours poking and prodding me, scanning my guts, and giving me more IV fluids. I got a shot in my butt*, yippee.

Let's throw up our rock hands

Tonight I’m blogging from bed. This is apparently what it takes to get an update out of me these days, so you’ll have to deal. Besides, you can’t stop me; I’ve already locked the door. Though I guess if you had the time machine required to stop me publishing this *after* you read it, you could just get here *before* I locked the door. But clearly you didn’t, so nyah.

Sam is fascinated by the moving text. I didn’t think dogs “got” things on screens, but every time the little worm of words starts crawling across the page he perks up his eyebrows and stares at it. Hee hee, and he follows the cursor when I wiggle it around the screen. Hoo boy, I don’t know which of us is more easily amused.

First week

Teaching from 6:00 to 9:30 on back-to-back nights when you have class during the day from 11:00 to 5:30 can be rough. At least I don’t have to stand up the whole time in order to learn. Sam, I think, would also prefer that I not be gone so long. Yesterday morning when I left he hid under the bed and barely looked at me when I said goodbye. This morning was better: he still stared at the ground in that depressed-but-adorable mood of his, but at least he let me rub his ears a little.

School is school. Most of my classes seem like they’ll be good ones. A couple are great, a couple crummy. I’m still waiting on my overload petition to go through—I’ll go in and bother the receptionist again tomorrow.

I expected to get my LSAT score back on Monday, but it came in today. On this test, you could miss one question and still get a 180. I missed both of the questions I thought I might miss, plus two more through mistakes I made—not careless mistakes, but mistakes nonetheless. My score was a 175.

On (what was, IMO) the hardest Logical Reasoning question on the test, I stared at it for a good minute, put down a plausible guess and circled it, then came back at the end of the section to stare at it for three or four minutes more. Just as time ran out, I got a flash of insight into the problem and furiously erased and rebubbled my answer.

Q to the U to the A-G-M-I-R-E-S

So my posting volume here has been way down of late for various reasons, none of them interesting. I’m busy with school and work, and the free bits of time I can scrounge up here and there are funneled straight into YouTube.

I’ve been having a shitty couple weeks as far as food goes, but I think today was the last day. Yes.

Sam is back to his usual healthy, perky self. We even made it out to the dog park last week when the rain finally stopped. He LOVED IT.

Upon arriving home, remove your gloves BEFORE you kneel down to greet your dog at the door…unless you like electric kisses.

Wintry

Yesterday the temperature got up into the 70s, but for tomorrow the weather folks are all waving their arms about an ice storm. Ice pellets! Sleet! Freezing rain! (Is there a difference?) Think of the children!

School’s supposed to start tomorrow. It might not. We’ll see. All you folks in snowier climes are probably laughing at our precaution, but we Houstonians don’t know from sleet, y’all. Seriously. As soon as the roads ice up we all drive straight into the bayous for the heck of it. Also, few of us own gloves. Or warm socks.
