I’m neither a fascinating person nor a compelling writer, but I do enjoy watching myself type, which is probably the main reason I blog in the first place.

  1. My name is Natalie.
  2. I am 26 years old.
  3. I live in Houston.
  4. I started this blog as a Xanga page in January of 2003, then moved to my own domain in September 2005.
  5. I like it much better here.
  6. I’m a taiko drummer with Kaminari Taiko of Houston.
  7. If I could earn a living playing taiko, I’d give it a shot.
  8. I’m a third-year law student at the UH Law Center.
  9. My focus is on intellectual property law. Or tax. Or environmental law.
  10. I graduated in May 2008 from the University of Houston, majoring in Math and Physics, with a Latin minor.
  11. Between 2002 and 2004 I went to school at a hardcore little place out in SoCal called Harvey Mudd College, where I was a Math/Astrophysics double major.
  12. I am a huge nerd.
  13. But neither a dork nor a geek.
  14. I have one brother, three years younger and a foot taller than I am.
  15. I’m good at math, especially probability and statistics.
  16. I’m pretty good at physics.
  17. I have a knack for languages, though so far I haven’t put in the time and effort to learn a second spoken language well.
  18. Someday I will be a teacher. I don’t know when, or how, or at what level. I would like to do something else, retire, and then teach.
  19. I’m learning to sew.
  20. My fiance’s name is John.
  21. He has a real grown-up job.
  22. We’ve been dating since March 2007.
  23. In August 2009 we got engaged while hiking in the mountains in Colorado.
  24. We plan to be married in January 2011.
  25. Wedding planning is challenging, to say the least. I haven’t decided whether I enjoy it or not.
  26. We live with a scruffy little terrier mix, my first dog ever.
  27. His name is Samson.
  28. He is cuter than your dog.
  29. Settlers of Catan is my favorite board game.
  30. Douglas Hofstadter’s Gödel, Escher, Bach is my favorite book.
  31. I keep my apartment warmer than most people keep their bathwater.
  32. I prefer sugary snacks to salty ones.
  33. I am half Dutch. I don’t speak the language nearly as well as I’d like to.
  34. I did NOT like living in California.
  35. I remember most of my dreams.
  36. My secret superpower is copyediting.
  37. I don’t believe in God, but this upsets me, so I try to avoid thinking deeply about it most of the time.
