For two weeks now, Houston’s been hotter than … well, a mild fever. Which is hot, as air goes. And despite the lack of rain, it’s still a wet, heavy heat. At least the drought is keeping the mosquitoes at bay. Biking to work has become a somewhat icky endeavor; I’ve learned to bring an extra shirt to change into when I get there.

I saw a car today with three bumper stickers: a Mac apple, a Houston Astros sticker, and a sticker that looked like those oval country/vacation spot stickers with initials in them but actually stood for “Jesus Freak.” I don’t know why the combination struck me as odd, but I kind of want to meet this person.

Work has sent me to the library for the last three days straight. After 200 or so pages from at least 50 books, I’m feeling deeply in tune with the copy machines. Our team of three has become a well-oiled machine, a paragon of efficient cite-checking. Which is a good thing, because we’ve probably got two more days of library work ahead of us.

I bought fabric at Ikea to make curtains for my living room. Curtains! Heart Ikea fabric, even though it’s a bit expensive relative to most Ikea-stuff. I’m also making curtains for John’s living room out of one of his old bedsheets. He has … more practical tastes in home furnishings.

Taiko continues to rock my world. I thought the early summer, when we mostly do conditioning for the big September show, would be boring, but I look forward to practice every Thursday and Sunday. Like, days in advance. Pretty much as soon as I leave the dojo the practice before. I’m helping a tiny bit in the writing of a new song, and I’m surprised at how invigorating and satisfying the process is, even in the rough spots.

I’m in the middle of the law journal write-on competition. My Property grade dragged my GPA down far enough that I can’t write on to Law Review (boo), so I’m aiming for the International Law journal. If I don’t make *that* one it’ll be a tough decision between the (unofficially) third- and fourth-ranked journals, Health Law and Business & Tax. I’d rather not think about that right now.
The competition started last Saturday and ends July 9th. Between now and then I’ll be writing a thirty-page case note. I finally sat down to read the case, um, yesterday. So to anyone else who’s writing on, you’re way ahead of me. So, you know, you might as well take a week off and turn in that first draft. Right?

This dog cracks me up.
